Description

Blackwater Lodge is an informal, comfortable lodge-style establishment in a magnificent location overlooking the world-famous Munster Blackwater - one of Europe’s most spectacular salmon rivers.
It’s a no-nonsense, friendly place, where the comfort and enjoyment of salmon anglers is the top priority - truly a specialist sporting lodge. For years, the Blackwater Lodge has been the hideaway of salmon anglers from all over Europe and North America.
They return again and again because of our relaxed atmosphere and beautiful location.Historically the Lodge was formerly the railway station for the village of Ballyduff. It was built in 1882 & the line eventually closed in 1967. Construction of the Lodge
as we know it now began in 1971 around the old station buildings.

The Lodge is Ireland's premier salmon fishing lodge. It has approximately 14 miles of private and exclusive salmon fishing on the Cork Blackwater. This is a very High record fishery with approx. 8000 salmon caught per season in recent years, but up to 1,500 per season in the last 20 years.

With the banning of the Irish drift net fishery from 2007 on, the benefits are already being seen. Far more fish are running the river in the summer, & the average weight is much higher than when the nets operated. Already, there has been a dramatic improvement in catches and the greater number of fish in the river has also meant that the percentage of fish caught on fly has been also considerably increased.
All methods are currently allowed, but daily beat rota caters especially for fly fishers.
The Lodge’s website is unique in that it has a daily updated river report page which gives details of the river conditions & the fish being caught at least once per day & often more.
The Website Fishing report page can be accessed directly on: http://www.ireland-salmon-fishing.net/FishingReport/fishingreport.htm
Please note that a password is required, but free registration is available by contacting Lodge proprietor & Netmaster Ian Powell at the Lodge on info@ireland-salmon-fishing.net.
The Lodge controls 15 beats (approximately 14 miles of fishing) on the best reaches of the river between Lismore to Mallow. This covers some 40 river miles, starting only 3 miles above the tidal limit. The Lodge offers both guesthouse and self-catering cottage accommodation. It has a lovely lounge with a panoramic view over the Blackwater river. It has its own tackle shop, smokery & provides guides & tuition in all forms of salmon fishing.
The Lodge is owned & run by salmon fishing fanatics Ian & Glenda Powell.
Fly casting tuition is the Lodge speciality, from beginner right up to the most advanced spey casting with Glenda Powell.
Glenda is one of the most highly qualified female instructors in the world, having both Salmon & Trout qualifications with Association of Professional Game Angling Instructors - Ireland. She was also crowned Emerald World Masters Ladies Salmon Distance Champion in September, 2006.
The Lodge is very accessible as it is situated only one hour from Cork, 2 hours from Shannon & Rosslare and 4 hours from Dublin.
Ian can also be contacted on Skype at: bwlodge
